Lord Krishna was born in a prison in Mathura to Devaki and Vasudeva while his evil uncle, Kansa, had them imprisoned due to a prophecy foretelling his demise at the hands of their eighth son.
Vasudeva, guided by a divine voice, secretly carried baby Krishna across the Yamuna River to Gokul, exchanging him with Nanda and Yashoda's newborn daughter Yogamaya, to protect Krishna from Kansa's wrath.

In Gokul, Krishna grew up as the mischievous "Maakhan Chor" (butter thief), playfully stealing and sharing butter with his friends, delighting the villagers despite their feigned annoyance. Krishna's childhood was filled with such playful antics, showcasing his divine charm, bravery, and unconditional love for his devotees,

A Midnight of Divine Joy of Janmashtami
Janmashtami celebrates the divine birth of Lord Krishna in Mathura, at the sacred midnight hour known as Nishita Kaal. Krishna was born to end evil and spread love and Dharma.
The homes are filled with devotion, people fast, sing melodious Bhajans, prepare delicious Bhog, and lovingly decorate Laddu Gopal in beautiful attire. The celebration reaches its peak with the midnight Aarti, a magical moment when devotees feel Krishna’s divine presence right in their homes.
Janmashtami Vrat with Purity and Devotion
On Janmashtami Vrat is a sacred preparation to welcome Lord Krishna. As per the fasting rules of Janmashtami, devotees follow two main types of fast. Let us find out both of them in detail:
1. Nirjala Vrat
A complete fast without food or water until midnight, observed by those who wish to embrace the festival in its most traditional and disciplined form.
2. Phalahar Vrat
This form is where one can consume only fruits, milk, curd, makhan, and light sattvic meals, while strictly avoiding grains, pulses, onion, and garlic.
For a spiritually fulfilling fast, it is important to keep fresh fruits, curd, and homemade Makhan ready for Bhog. The light and simple meals help maintain energy, and sipping water when needed ensures comfort, because our beloved Krishna values devotion over physical strain.
Throughout the day, you can immerse yourself in chanting ‘Hare Krishna Maha Mantra’, reading about Krishna’s divine Leelas, and adorning Laddu Gopal in beautiful attire. Keep fresh water in the Kalash during Pooja to maintain sanctity and add a traditional touch.
When midnight arrives, open your fast with offerings such as Panchamrit, Sabudana Khichdi, and Mishri-Makhan, serving the Lord first before partaking. This blend of discipline and devotion truly completes the spirit of Janmashtami.
